SDGs of Sabae, the city of glasses
Based at the Sabae SDGs Promotion Center, we are working to promote the SDGs through collaboration between industry, government, academia and citizens.
Sabae City is a thriving manufacturing center for things like glasses, textiles, and lacquerware.
This development has been supported by the active participation of women, the civic spirit that has brought about innovation with an eye to the times, and a local climate in which each citizen can play a leading role.
Taking advantage of this characteristic, Sabae City is working to promote the SDGs, focusing on Goal 5 of the SDGs, "Achieving gender equality."
Purpose of promoting SDGs
Sabae City aims to be a city where everyone who lives in Sabae will be happy to live here and continue to live here, even 50 or 100 years from now. This is in line with the SDGs' philosophy of "leaving no one behind." By each and every citizen taking action to achieve the 17 SDGs, we will take on the challenge of realizing a sustainable "City of Glasses, Sabae."
Sabae, the City of Glasses SDGs Promotion Symbol Mark [Glocal]
The 17 SDGs are divided into eight goals on each side, and are connected by a bridge of Goal 5, "Achieve gender equality." In keeping with Sabae, the city of glasses, the mark represents capturing global trends with one lens and thinking about and acting locally with another.

Designated management begins

Four-party comprehensive agreement concluded
To promote regional revitalization and SDGs through sports, we have concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement with the Japan Sports SDGs Association, a general incorporated association that aims to achieve the SDGs through sports, GAORA Inc., which operates a satellite sports channel, and Media Vision, a member of the Koshinomiya Network Group.

Raising the "Friends of the United Nations" flag
SDGsの加速や地方創生の取り組みの充実を発信するために、国連本部の活動を支援する非政府組織「国連の友」の旗を、さばえSDGs推進センターの入居するめがね会館前に掲揚しました。
2018
Report to the United Nations Headquarters in New York
A program promoting the SDGs was produced jointly by Sabae City, Tannan CATV (at the time), and Friends of the United Nations. Following a report to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Mayor Momoo Makino (at the time) was requested by Ambassador Chaudhry to speak at the "United Nations New York Headquarters SDGs Promotion Conference" and met with UN officials.

SDGs Sabae Declaration
We invited UN Ambassador Chowdhury to Sabae City and held the "Sabae SDGs Promotion Symposium" to promote the dissemination and awareness of the SDGs and to promote the construction and development of an SDGs promotion model. At the end of the symposium, all 400 participants made the "SDGs Sabae Declaration."
2019
Selected as an SDGs Future City
Sabae City proposed an integrated initiative to promote women's participation in society, linking the three aspects of economy, society, and environment, under the theme of "Sabae, a city of glasses where women shine - women's empowerment empowers the community." The city was selected as both an SDGs Future City (31 municipalities) for fiscal year 2019 and as a Municipal SDGs Model Project, with 10 projects selected from among these Future Cities.

Sabae SDGs Promotion Center opens
The center was established as a base to promote collaboration among stakeholders (diverse entities and related parties) and to create virtuous cycles and synergistic effects in the three areas of economy, society, and environment, with a focus on Goal 5, "Achieving gender equality," which Sabae City is particularly focused on.

Glasses Town Sabae Support Project
In order to revitalize and promote the three areas that Sabae City aims for - health, economy, and hope - the city has partnered with LDH JAPAN Inc. and W TOKYO Inc., the Tokyo Girls Collection's organiser, to launch a project that adds entertainment and other elements to the projects the city has been working on up until now.
