Welcome to the Sabae SDGs Promotion Center. My name is Anwarul K. Chowdhury and I have been appointed as an honorary advisor to the Sabae SDGs Promotion Center, which will serve as the base facility for promoting the SDGs in Sabae City.
My relationship with Sabae City spans over 10 years.
I have always said that Sabae City has not only raised its local industries, such as glasses, lacquerware, and textiles, to a global level, but also has a spirit of exploration into new technologies and a variety of social and economic activities with citizen participation, which are things the city can be proud of on a global scale.
Furthermore, based on the basic idea of creating a place and opportunity for citizens, Sabae City's efforts to bring together local businesses, educational institutions, civic groups, and the government are truly a demonstration of the region's commitment to achieving the SDGs. Without the cooperation of the citizens, we would not have been able to sow the seeds that will allow the SDGs to blossom here. Citizen participation is the most essential nutrient for achieving the SDGs.
These goals (SDGs) should benefit people all over the world, but they will not be achieved unless there is action at the local level.
And let us not forget women's equality and empowerment.
As a diplomat and UN official, I have traveled to many countries and regions.
I have seen firsthand how important it is for women to play an active role in building a society that is peaceful and equal in all aspects. Without an equal society, regardless of gender or age, good countries, regions, and individuals cannot be formed.
As the world faces a crisis, we need hubs for community, innovation, ingenuity, lifestyles, and connections between people. I hope that the Sabae SDGs Promotion Center will play this role and provide an opportunity to create a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable city.
