Sabae City is a city that has achieved growth through spontaneous development centered on the manufacturing sector, including eyeglasses, textiles, and lacquerware. This development has been supported by the active participation of women, the citizenry that has developed innovations with an eye to the times, and a local climate in which each citizen can play a leading role.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of universal goals adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, perfectly align with the urban development approach that our city has been working on together with its citizens. Aiming to realize a society in which "no one is left behind," which is the philosophy of the SDGs, we are working to promote the SDGs, particularly focusing on "achieving gender equality" by taking advantage of our city's regional characteristics.

The Sabae SDGs Promotion Center was opened in 2020, the year that marked the start of the Decade of Action toward the DGs' target year of 2030. The importance of the SDGs has been reaffirmed in the wake of major disasters around the world caused by climate change and the global spread of COVID-19, and both the national and prefectural governments are accelerating their efforts to promote the SDGs. The SDGs are universal, shared global goals, and are the goals of each and every one of us. The Sabae SDGs Promotion Center will serve as a base for collaboration and cooperation between industry, government, academia, and the public to promote the SDGs.
